A one-way clutch, also known as a free wheel mechanism or an overrunning clutch, is used to achieve one-way locking of the guide wheel, which can only rotate clockwise but not counterclockwise, allowing the hydraulic torque converter to achieve coupling transmission in the high-speed zone.
After the one-way clutch is damaged and fails, the hydraulic torque converter loses its function of torque amplification. At this time, the following fault phenomenon will occur: the vehicle accelerates and starts weakly, does not step on the accelerator pedal, and does not move, but shifts gears normally after driving, and the engine power is normal. If a stall test is conducted, it will be found that the stall speed is 400-800r/min lower than the normal value.
The inspection method for one-way clutch is to use a special tool to blend it into the groove of the oil pump drive hub and the outer race of the one-way clutch. Then press the inner race of the one-way clutch with your fingers and turn it to check if it rotates smoothly clockwise and locks counterclockwise. If the one-way clutch is damaged, the hydraulic torque converter assembly needs to be replaced.
