How to identify the quality of bearings based on their appearance

We all know that cars can run without the engine, and another important factor is the wheels. One important component in the ability of a wheel to rotate is the bearing. The quality of bearings directly affects the operation of tires, and the inspection of all bearings is particularly important.

The key points to pay attention to in appearance inspection are as follows:

(1) Various cracks, such as raw material cracks, forging cracks, heat treatment cracks, and grinding cracks, will become a source of stress concentration and rapidly expand during the operation of the bearing in the future, causing bearing fracture and greatly affecting the bearing life and working safety.

(2) Various mechanical scars, such as abrasions, scratches, indentations, and impacts, can cause poor bearing installation, resulting in biased loads and stress concentration, leading to a decrease in rotational accuracy and service life.

(3) Rust, black skin, and pitting are the last two defects that are prone to storing moisture and dirt, and are most likely to develop into rust. Rust, on the other hand, is a source of pollution that leads to poor installation, early wear, and fatigue. Severe rust can cause bearings to be scrapped.

(4) Peeling and folding, these two defects have weak local bonding with the base metal, and there are often varying degrees of decarburization or carbon deficiency around them. The material is prone to collapse, indentation, or wear, which is detrimental to the bearing life and accuracy.

(5) The quality of riveting or welding of the cage mainly depends on whether the rivet head is misaligned, skewed, loose, lacking flesh or "double eyelids", whether the welding position is correct, whether the welding points are too large or too small, and whether there is loose welding or excessive welding that causes jamming of the rolling element.
